Importance of Forests:

Forests are advantageous for environment. They influence climate, reduce soil erosion, regulate stream flow, provide raw material for industries and livelihood for many, etc. They control wind force and temperature and cause rainfall. They also provide shelter to various animal species.

  • Forest Coverage - About 10% canopy area in 1 hectare or more that it.
  • Dense Forest 40% and above canopy density area.
  • Open Forest Forest area with 10-40% canopy density area.
  • Very Dense Forest - Forest area with 70% and above canopy density area.
  • Medicinal Plants :

    From ancient times. India is known for its herbs and spices Around 2.000 plants have been described in Ayurveda and at least 500 are in regular use. The World Conservation Union's Rec List has named 352 medicinal plants of which 52 are critically threatened and 49 endangered.
